Maui’s Best Scuba Diving

Jose was fantastic!

Jose was our dive master for the night dive at Blackrock. He had two inexperienced but certified divers along with two others. The current was strong and getting out of the water with dive gear was challenging. Jose kept a very calm demeanor and showed a great level of skill and experience. I was very impressed with his abilities. We were lucky as well as happy to have him with us. Thank you for your friendliness and professionalism Jose.

What a great experience. My husband and I are certified divers, but had not been diving in about 5 years. We decided to pay for the pool refresher course. It did go pretty quick as everything came right back to us. I’m glad we did it.

Jose was patient, kind and polite. We booked our dive from our Marriott on Ka’anapali Beach and walked down to the Sheraton. He saw we were certified, quickly gave a refresher on the gear, then headed to the pool. Spent about 15 mins there and headed out. I do believe beginners will experience something different.

The dive is a shore dive. We’ve never done a shore dive, always from a boat. This is a great beginner’s dive as the dive only goes about 30-35 feet deep. You’ll swim out about 15 feet, and slowly descend as the ocean bottom does. We dove the left side of black rock. Eels galore, white-tip sharks and sea turtles, and multiple fish I couldn’t even begin to remember.

Yes, we loved it. Once back, gear removed, we booked another dive the next morning. This time, we dove the right side of black rock. This was a totally different experience. Crazy how each side gave you a different insight into the underwater world. Schools of fish everywhere. So close you could almost touch them. Black Rock there is awesome. You will literally dive (swim) under the rock face. You’ll see white-tip sharks again, more sea turtles, large schools of fish you don’t see on the left side, the largest eels and fish, fish, fish. This is another shore dive. Jose always had his hand-dandy magnetic writing board and would tell us the fish name.

Truly recommend this dive. Really recommend Jose. You can book right at the Sheraton if you’re there. They will provide you with a wet suit. We had short ones. It was perfect as the water gets chilly after a 40 min dive.

The water terrifies me!! I was lucky enough to have Jose Silva as my instructor! He was very patient with me in area’s that I struggled with. Always very professional and was able to really teach me by example and not out of a book! He made the course enjoyable and stress free! We went on several dives and was able see a large amount of underwater life.!! I would recommend Jose to anyone! I can say that he or any instructor on his team will be able make your dive or course the best! Thanks again Jose! That was the highlight of Hawaii!

My two sons and myself have just completed out PADI open warer certificate with José. At all times José was thorough, professional, friendly and supportive. No hesitation with trusting him to look after my two boys (as well as me!).

It’s been an incredible two days of dives. We’ve seen so much 🙂 The sharks this morning were awesome but the highlifght for us all was the pod of 40 or more dolphins that passed within 5 meters of us last night. A lifetime memory!

Jose was superb!

I did two dives with Jose out of the Sheraton Black Rock and highly recommend the experience. Jose offered a good overview prior to each dive, and made sure the equipment was just right. He carried a flashlight and writing board on the dives, so that he could spot more sea life and share some info. The first day I was the only diver with him and the second day there were just three of us with him, so it felt like I had my personal dive guide to show me the wonders of Black Rock. We saw turtles and sharks on both dives, as well as eels and schools of fish. I’ll dive again when I’m back at Kannapali! Mahalo to Jose!

I wish this could be a 10 star review! Such an amazing experience with my 13 year old daughter on her first scuba dive! Jose was patient, a great teacher and made everything easy to understand! Hands down the best on the island!

PADI Open Water Diver Certification Course

I did my introductory pool and beach dive with Jose Silva at the Maui Hyatt Regency and 5 Star scuba. I enjoyed the underwater freedom of diving and I decided to continue with the Open Water Certification Course. Jose was great, but it was his last day on the island. I finished the course with Brent Bussell. He is an excellent instructor. Brent’s experience and knowledge shows in his straight forward instructions that are just detailed enough to be easy to follow and execute. Throw in the a great location to dive and the fact that the course cost less than any I had looked into in Phoenix made diving off Ka’anapali Beach with 5 Star scuba was a great experience.

Jose IS the difference!!!

When my 15 year old daughter decided to get scuba certified for our upcoming Hawaii trip, I was more than a bit apprehensive having her finish her open water certification at a “resort”. However, from my first email communication through the certification process – and beyond – I was nothing but impressed with Jose at the Hyatt’s 5-Star Scuba Center. Being a diver for almost 20 years and gone through 6 different certification myself, I have seen all sorts of instructors. Many experienced instructors loose some of their fire and enthusiasm. On rare occasion, you find an instructor who not only has the experience, but also has an unyielding passion for scuba, works very well with all age groups, and possesses a genuine appreciation for the marine life and environment. Jose is just such a person. My only regret is that my daughter should have done her pool work with Jose as well. Jose – thanks for making our trip to Maui a wondrous underwater adventure for our family!

First Rate Diving Instruction/Guidance

Jose Silva is the best diving instructor and guide one could ask for. I just completed my open-water certification dives and two guided dives with Jose. Jose is extremely competent and experienced, and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Jose for both lessons and for guided dives. He knows the area around Maui like the back of his hand and we all had a terrific time diving with him. He maintains his equipment in top condition. Jose has been diving all over the world and he has a deep understanding of the art of diving.
